Biography

Hong Ying is an Industrial Designer with McKinsey & Company’s LUNAR Design group in Chicago. Prior to joining LUNAR, he worked for Biolite, a Brooklyn-based social enterprise that runs parallel innovations in Outdoor Recreation and Emerging markets, GE Appliances in Louisville, KY and Johnson & Johnson, DePuy Synthes-Sports Medicine in Great Boston area. With has been diversity of experiences, his expertise is established with an emphasis on consumer insight, user-centric product development and holistic visions for design strategy. He is interested in exploring a variety of design topics related to innovative technology and also passionate about sustainable and social impact design challenges as he believes design also serves the purpose to improve our environment and help the people in need most.
Hong Ying has won several awards including Red Dot, A’ Design, Spark and Core77 Design Award. He also as one of design leads, participated in a successful funded project on Kickstarter with Biolite. A native of Taiwan, Hong Ying completed his Bachelor degree in Fine Arts in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and acquired his Master degree in Industrial Design from Rochester Institute of Technology in New York and he also took a Scandinavian Furniture Design program in Copenhagen, where the chair he designed was selected to exhibit in ICFF (Internal Contemporary Furniture Fair) in New York City.
