Class of 2009
Designer, John Wind Maximal Art
Fawn Brokaw is a multidisciplinary designer with an eclectic background in art direction, furniture, packaging, event, and graphic design. She currently uses (most of) those skills as a designer for John Wind Maximal Art, a boutique & private label jewelry design firm specializing in Modern Vintage aesthetic. Fawn designs custom jewelry for clients including Anthropologie, Destination Maternity, Pea in the Pod, and David’s Bridal- as well as two in-house jewelry lines carried in boutiques across the country.
Fawn graduated with a BFA in Industrial Design
from RIT in 2009. Immediately after graduation, she started her own company called FawnRay Designs, a handmade jewelry line using natural, locally sourced materials. Currently her process involves taking vintage jewelry components and mixing them with a vast array of beads, crystal, and metal findings.
This project was a series of necklaces for Anthropologie that took inspiration from a fringed charm bracelet by Yves Saint Laurent. After creating a collection of prototypes, the pieces are reviewed by the client and sometimes there are a few rounds of edits or color variations. For this project, the client chose one necklace they liked and asked for further development of a silver and mixed metal version. Then the prototypes selected are sent to our high-volume manufacturer in China. (The in house brands, John Wind and Circa 1985, are made at the studio outside Philadelphia). The manufacturer then provides a sample they can produce. Upon approval, the product then goes into production and is sold in stores across the country and the UK.
